This maneuver reflects poorly on the level of computer literacy present in
the Oswego School District and Ken Eastwood, it also gives us a chilling demonstration
of their vulnerability to politically motivated media campaigns, and presents
a very bleak picture of their understanding of the First Amendment.

We view this blocking  as a violation of the First Amendment.
 .
It is unconstitutional because it bars adults from access to constitutionally protected
material. If the censorware is activated only when minors use library computers, it
is still unconstitutional, because the overwhelming bulk of material blocked by
Cyber Patrol is constitutionally protected speech for minors as well.
.
Any use of censorware at a public library is over
restrictive and an unacceptable infringement of
the First Amendment rights of minors as well as adults.
.
Imagine the outcry, if the school district, were to hire a private
corporation to censor all of the books in the Oswego Public Library
.
What people need to be protected from is Big Brother moralists
deciding for them what they can't see, read, or think.
.
This is a very important issue, and all of us need to remember a
harsh history lesson: First, they come for the libraries.
.
 Without public scrutiny, there is no accountability.
.
We can only surmise that Ken Eastwood didn't bother to seek
competent legal advice, or that he chose, for political
reasons, to ignore the advice that he was given.

The Loudon County, Va., library board was
ordered to remove software that filtered certain
Internet content by a US District Court Judge as it was
deemed a violation of adults' First Amendment rights.
.

   That's exactly how censorship works -- it KILLS ideas -- thoughts -- and denies people the choice
   and capacity to reason. The decision is made FOR them, by the authoritarians who run the schools.

   Where thoughts and ideas are killed, you can only have societal stagnation and decay.
Clearly those in power are threatened by the ideas of Inside Oswego NY.
They don't want you to think for yourself!

   Imagine what will happen if EVERY public school censored web pages they didn't like.!
What would happen is that only those who can afford the luxury of owning a computer
would be able to access pages.
This censorship move means to deprive the poor of the full benefit of the Internet.

Eastwood didn't like this page, and decided FOR you that you shouldn't see it!
   .
   Is that what you want? Write to the Oswego School Board and tell them you oppose
to censorship in the Oswego Schools.

Start talking to others about this issue . We must not let thought control become
entrenched  in society, in public schools of all places -- which, at least in
   less totalitarian cultures, are supposed to be places of learning!

Mayor Hammill Is Harassing Police Officer Kearns Again

On November 1, 1998 Officer Kearns broke his hand while attempting to
arrest Dan Cullen. According to Kearns and Officer DeCairs report,
Officer Delapp ran away from the scene during the encounter. Delapp has
been accused before of being a COWARD. However Delapp is also one of
Hammills boys. On January 4, 1999 Mayor Hammill charged Kearns (again)
with disciplinary action.  The last time he brought Kearns up on charges
Kearns sued the city for harassment.  Kearns was out of work WITH PAY
for 10 months. They (city of Oswego) paid him several thousand dollars
($25,000) in exchange for Kearns dropping his harassment lawsuit and ALL
charges of misconduct were dropped!!!
As a member of the police department I can tell you that these NEW
charges against Officer Kearns (charge 1 striking Cullen in the head)
and charge 2 calling a fellow officer a coward ) are baseless, frivolous
and again will result in the city being on the hook.
I can't believe the taxpayers will tolerate him wasting more of the
taxpayers money.

Why would you attack the author of this page if what you say is true?
How can you say these teachers in question weren't behaving in that manner,
you weren't even there! I was at the restaurant at the time the drunkards
arrived and I didn't see your shining face anywhere near there. If these
teachers are such good people, why do they need defending from someone at the
top of Oswego Society? If they wouldn't act like that in public then why would
they need to be defended.

Yet again a concerned citizen.

Why has a waterline belonging to Oswego been seized for unpaid back taxes???

Where did the tax money go?

.Public Schools were first intended to
 educate children, not provide
cushy jobs for bureaucrats.
